Someone may remember more than I do. I think Dillard Highschool in Fort Lauderdale and Attucks (middle or high) in Hollywood and several elementary schools. My father used to deliver ice cream to them and I helped on weekends. The schools were physically in bad shape and the books were the discards from the white schools with covers and pages missing or scribbled on. There were 2 principals in all of Broward county that had PhDs. They were husband and wife, African American and I am sure they could have made lots more money elsewhere but they chose to help the less fortunate.

I just read Leo's comments about the 55th reunion all I can say is, "my sentiments exactly"!!! It was the best reunion yet & yes, I'm a bit biased because Wanda is one my dearest friends in the whole wide world but she made it what it was. Of course I appreciate all the work that went into the planning of the reunion but Wanda was without a doubt the icing on the cake. From all the feedback I got, everyone agrees & it would be great to have her back for the 75th BD party in Orlando. Love & hugs to all, Lita

Very short notice...however...too good to not pass along. From now to OCT 13, the Main Street Playhouse in Miami Lakes is featuring THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES...A MUSICAL COMEDY IN TWO PARTS...Part I is the High School class of 1958; Part 2 is their ten year reunion in 1968. The music is terrific..."our stuff...". Try to go if you can. Small 66 seat theater...Great! PS..my grandson does all the music except the percussion, see him at the intermission and say hello to Nick Katz (to the left in the Lobby).
I had no lead time, this was a surprise from my daughter...hope you can go and enjoy...Leo'58

Yvonne Saady passed away in July. She was in the class of 1959. I took the following from her obituary in the Zanesville Times Recorder (Ohio).

Yvonne Marie Nader

ZANESVILLE: Yvonne Marie. (Saady) Nader, 72 of Zanesville, passed away 8:30 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Genesis Good Samaritan CCU following a battle with lung cancer. She was born Wednesday, July 17, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Ammar) Saady.

Yvonne attended St. Benedict Elementary School in Cambridge and graduated from South Broward High School, Class of 1959, in Hollywood, Florida.

On Saturday, August 8, 1959 she married Louis G. Nader, Sr. and they began their family in Zanesville. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Yvonne had a deep appreciation for all music and enjoyed dancing, especially to Arabic music. She was a faithful member of the El-Binnette Club and greatly enjoyed the time she spent with club members and working on club activities. Yvonne also volunteered at various schools in the Muskingum County area. Most of all, Yvonne loved her family and friends and cherished the time spent with them.

It was a night, oooh what a night it was, it really was such a night ... except that is was a weekend ... it really was.
The ONLY negative was I felt bad for those who missed one of the very BEST reunions I have had the privilige to attend. Please start saving for the 75th Birthday bash in Orlando (Sept. 2015) so we won't miss you again?? By the way, look for a President's Day dinner in Feb. 2014 in the Hollywood area. Mac can't be there, and he asked me to "jump-in" so I will (stay tuned) ...
All I heard over the weekend were superlatives. Buddy did a great job in planning, acknowledgeing help and expiditing the weekend. The Sheraton folks treated us very well, the food was wonderful, if not a little too much ... leftovers went to poollside with the Beyer/Aument/Sorel waterbabies and passersby. The evening entertainment ... WANDA ... what a doll! She sang, we talked, she sang more and we talked more...and she was tickled pink with us and we with her. Maybe we can get her again for the 75th Group Birthday Party??
There were smiles, some tears (most of joy), outright laughter, huggies and cuddles galore. You are a class to be proud of ... so much positive thought, good health, ... and such a good-lookin' gang too. Photos coming to Mac as soon as possible. For the record, I love you all. See you soon? Leo'58

So sad to hear of the passing of yet another classmate.
This news makes me even more thankful to have been able to attend our 55th reunion. Love these special times with old friends. It was a wonderful weekend & I'm looking forward to future events.
Love & hugs, Lita
